CHASIN’ STEEL is a slang term for Steelhead fishing, and as the band members are avid steelhead fishermen, we decided to have our name reference this.  Thus, blending two of our favorite pastimes, fishing and bluegrass music.

Our band is generally considered a contemporary traditional four-piece bluegrass group with the majority of our songs featuring the banjo, mandolin, guitar and acoustic bass with three and four part harmonies.  We do have several songs that we feature the hammered dulcimer and therefore we shuffle instruments around to accompany this accordingly.

Continued…..

Although we typically structure our instrumentation in a traditional manner, our sound has what has been called a unique edge to it.  We are very banjo driven with an emphasis on our vocals.  We have numerous original songs, traditional songs, and contemporary bluegrass covers and most have a hard driving, aggressive nature to them.  We have been called a high energy band that appeals to not only the hard core bluegrass fan, but to the average person of any age demographic.  It is not uncommon for us to see a varied crowd of college students and baby boomers in the same audience.

We generally play up to four times a week as a working band.  Some of our accomplishments so far include:

·        Performing live on the air broadcasts for B103.3 FM WFXD in Marquette, MI., 105.7 FM WCUP in Baraga, MI., and 104.1 FM WRLU in Sturgeon Bay, WI.

·        Performing at the Motongator Music Festival, Salt River Bluegrass Festival, Midsummer In The Northwoods Bluegrass Festival, Woodtick Music Festival, Bill Jogensen’s Heritage Farms Bluegrass Festival, Seafood Fest, Lakefest, and many more…..

·        A concert for the Midland Folk Music Society where they grossed more donation dollars after our performance than any other act brought in.

·        Taped an in studio performance for Midland PBS television station broadcasts which has aired multiple times.

We recently completed our first album entitled BLUEGRASS ON THE FLY featuring twelve (12) original songs out of the fourteen (14) tracks.  Several songs are receiving regional radio airplay.
