Anyone looking for what the combination of country music in overdrive, bluegrassy hot picking, and fun on stage with performers can be like, they need to look no further than Chasin' Steel.  Whenever I have seen this band they have captured everyone in the audience who did not know of them and made them a fan, as well as rocked those who came to see them.  It is amazing how at festivals, based upon their performance in front of many 'radio hit' bands, that they outsell the headliners with demand for their CD's being very high.  At some point you can be assured that those leaving their show will say the next day to someone 'you should've seen them... they were great!"                                                                        --John McEuen of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

BLUEGRASS ON THE FLY!!!

It all started in the spring of 2002.  The snow started to melt and the rain began to fall.  With the wondrous change of the seasons the chrome fish started to migrate up the river.  Three anglers pointed their truck towards the sunrise and headed to their favorite stretch of river.  With a perfect cast the reel began to scream out and chromie sped down the river.   There on the banks of the roaring  river Chasin' Steel was formed.  Soon a fourth was consumed by the quest of hearing his "reel scream whats the deal".

CHASIN’ STEEL is a slang term for Steelhead fishing, and as the band members are avid steelhead fishermen, they decided to have their name reference this.  Thus, blending two of their favorite pastimes; fishing and       bluegrass  music.

Jonah, Jacob and Jason Kuhlman grew up playing music in the family band and when they joined forces with Adam Carpenter, a unique chemistry brought a new flavor of bluegrass to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  Chasin' Steel is a traditionally structured four-piece bluegrass group with the majority of their songs featuring the banjo, mandolin, guitar and acoustic bass with three and four part harmonies.  Although they typically structure their instrumentation in this traditional manner, their sound has, what has been called, a unique edge to it.  Some have called them, "Bluegrass with a Rock & Roll attitude."  They do have several songs that feature the hammered dulcimer which are always crowd pleasers.  Chasin' Steel has numerous original songs, traditional songs, and contemporary bluegrass covers that have a hard driving, aggressive nature to them.  Many of their loyal fans enjoy their tribute to Jimmy Martin, also known as the King of Bluegrass.  They have been called a high energy band that appeals to not only hard core bluegrass fans, but to the average fan of music.  It is also not uncommon to see a varied crowd of college students and older folks in the same audience.
